I’ve always thought written drum set parts were really interesting. Something I always tell my students is that most drum charts are more of a idea of what to play as opposed to a strict part like a classical piano part. That’s why it’s so important for drummers to be aware of different styles and genres because to play a certain kind of groove well is very different from playing a part exactly as written.
