Pocket Drumming

When I was a kid all the old timers I would be learning from would talk to me about playing "in the pocket" and it took me a very long time to figure out what that meant.. Like a lot of musical ideas, I'm still figuring it out but I think Jonathan Moffetts playing on this track is a great example of amazing pocket drumming. Super driving, never getting in the way of the pulse, but also with some deceptively syncopated rhythms. Especially on the hi-hat! I could do without the stick twirls though:)
